After a full month of daily injection, I have finally "graduated" from the injections and carrying the cooler back for my last doctor's visit to determine my date of Egg Pickup. And so that day came, doctor gave me a final booster injection meds to bring home to be administered 2 days before the Egg Pickup. Doctor also ordered for a blood test to check if my progestrone level is too high due to the amount of hormone injection that I have had for the past 8 days to produce more eggs in both my ovaries. If the level is too high, my Embryo Transfer date shall be shifted to a later date.
After coming out from Doctor's room, I proceed to the nurse' station to get my blood test and medicine.
Proceed home after that, and follow the Egg Pickup Instruction plan given by the nurse. Egg pickup was scheduled on 23rd June 2016 (Thursday). In the morning of 21st June 2016, I have a final busereline jab and I am done with my morning routine of daily injections. On the night of 21st June 2016, at 10PM sharp, hubby inject me with the booster jab to ripen all my eggs. And finally, the day come, 23rd June. Woke up at 7AM, had a quick shower, and as instructed, no shower gel, no perfume, no make up. Wore a comfortable dress and off we go to Sunfert. Reached there by 8AM as instructed and the nurses checked me in.
At about 8.30 AM, my name was called and the nurse brought me into the daycare area to prep me with the necessary i.e change to hospital garment, wear a cap, inject me with a branula and I am waiting for my turn to go into the O.T. About 9AM, my name was called and I walked myself into the OT accompanied by a nurse. Got up to the special bed and prop my legs up and get ready for the doctor to arrive for the procedure.
Waited for about 15 mins or so, Dr. Wong finally came and assures me that I will be fine and this procedure will be a fast one. An embryologist emerge and confirm my name and IC number. Finally the nurse injects me with the pain killer and sedative medication into my branula and take a few breath and I am off...
As the sedative medication ends, I felt a soreness at my uterus and realised that the procedure is not over. However, I hear as if the team knows I have start to regain consciousness and Dr. Wong quickly finish what he needs to do. And shortly after that, I was called awake and inform that the procedure is over and they have retrieve 11 eggs in total. I was happy with the number. Means 11 changes! And later I hoped over to my day bed and was wheeled into the daycare recovery area.
After sleeping for about 2 hours, the daycare nurse finally came to check on me and seen that I have regain fully my consciousness, I got up and was discharge shortly. Given a cup of Milo and had some biscuit that I brought along myself, I finally break-fast. (i had to fast from 12 midnight till after the procedure)
Later, my name was called and I go in to see doctor. Dr. Wong inform that I have 11 eggs and all seems good, however, he had done a cyst aspiration of my right ovarian cyst and found that when he aspirated the content, he saw pus coming out. Through the tone of his voice, he don't seem comfortable about it and he informed that he has send the content for a lab test. Then he prescribe me some antibiotics and probiotics to be taken till finish. He asked me how I feel, and I mentioned that cramps on my uterus area, and he mentioned that is normal. However, he informed that I can't do my transfer as the progestrone level is too high and I have to get my embryos frozen up for a later transfer 2 months later. I was sad about it at first but oh well, I have no choice.
As I got home, the cramps got worse and I can't help but to call their careline and inform of this pain. I was asked to take painkillers and rest more. Later that day the pain still persist and till the next day, I called up the careline again and was told to come in to the clinic to have doctor check on me. On Saturday, I did a walk in and doctor check on my and notice the pain is due to the left over empty egg shells. However, the pain have subsided quite a lot after that. Doctor inform that out of 11 eggs retrieved, only 8 can be use, and out of 8 only 4 were fertilized. I didn't like it as it doesn't seems like a good number, but we remain hopeful on our 4 lucky stars. I was told to check on the progress on Monday.
And so the waiting begins
